The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced that ordinances can be performed for deceased persons beginning 30 days after death.  It will no longer be necessary to wait a year as was the previous rule.
In the new General Manual, Chapter 28: Temple Ordinances for the Deceased, the following is explained in section 28.1:
“Deceased individuals who were 8 years old or older at the time of their death can have proxy ordinances performed on their behalf.  Except as provided in section 28.3, proxy ordinances may be performed for all deceased persons as soon as 30 days have elapsed from the date of death if one of the following conditions is met:
A close relative of the deceased (undivorced spouse, adult child, parent, or sibling) submits the name for temple ordinances.
Permission to perform ordinances is received from a close relative of the deceased (undivorced spouse, adult child, parent, or sibling).”
